The Idea: Pick a day this week and track the media (physical, social, digital, radio, television, etc.) you consume.
Why This is Meaningful: Author Tim Ferris recommends that you “cultivate selective ignorance – and create time – with a low information diet.”
No matter what you think about cultivating ignorance, he has a point about the time and attention we give media. Whether we like it or not, the attention we give media influences how we navigate this pained world. So, are you carefully and intentionally giving the gift of your attention?

Make no mistake, but your attention is valuable (economically, spiritually, socially, emotionally). For most of us the answer is “no”. A way to start getting to “yes” is curating the media you consume.
The Idea in Action: Download this template here and pick a day later this week or early next week. On that day set a reminder to pay attention each hour of the day to where your news, media or outside public information came from during the past hour. Do this while you are awake (please no grumpy comments about being woken every hour while you were trying to sleep) and cover a full 24-hours. The next day review your journal and write a few notes about what you notice about your media consumption. You can see the results of when I last did this kind of journal-ing in September in the Scribd window above (for those of you not on mobile) or here.
Peace,
Sterling Lynk
P.S. – Really try this activity. I learn the most by trying stuff and then deciding on the value of each experiment. If you are feeling generous after you try this, or would like feedback, please share what you learned in the comments below.
